Browns Coachworks MD with General Manager Ian Mawhinney after the expansion announcement yesterday....
Browns Coachworks is to expand its manufacturing complex at Moira Road Lisburn in response to an influx of orders from sources throughout the United Kingdom.
Orders from Sellafield Nuclear Power Station, Mersyside Fire and Bedfordshire & Lutton Fire & Rescue Service are amongst the present orders.
Brian Brown (Managing Director) says: “We have a very healthy order book of potentially £15 million which should take the company through until 2012. With many contract still to be awarded I am very confident that more orders will come our way, my very dedicated staff and employees have worked tirelessly over the past two years in research and development of our life saving vehicles which I believe has now has given us the edge over our competitors”.
For many years Browns have been successful in gaining orders to design and build vehicles for Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service including the state-of-the-art Command Support Units which are now used in all major incidents.
The company also supplies many Fire vehicles to the Irish market and has gained a great deal of experience in designing and manufacturing many different types of vehicle which service many different tasks i.e. Dublin Port Tunnel, Motorways and Rescue boat vehicles. This has helped the company greatly in there research and development programme.
Now over 70% of the company’s turnover comes from outside Northern Ireland.
In May 2007, Browns Coachworks applied and was awarded a National Framework agreement by Firebuy, a central procurement organisation set up by the government to supply Medium and Heavy Pumping Appliances to the English Fire Service. More recently the company gained yet another framework agreement to supply ‘specialists’ vehicles to the English market.
Browns Coachworks is now one of only three suppliers to this extremely important marketplace.
Brian Brown went on to say: “Browns has the potential to more than double its output on the Moira Road and will hope to employ up to 20 more people over the next 12 to 18 months.
